Beware of this fake whatsapp message

If you receive the below WhatsApp message, you might feel an irresistible itch to click on the link. But, don’t! Because it’s a scam.

Cybercriminals are now tricking WhatsApp users by piggybacking on the Amazon Black Friday Sale. As shown above, the fake WhatsApp message urges the user to buy an iPhone 6s (Space Grey, 64GB) just for ₹ 2,999/- before the sale ends. When I tried accessing this site by clicking on the link, both Firefox and Chrome blocked it. And the below message popped out as a warning that the website can trick us into installing software (potentially malicious or harmful) or revealing our personal information like passwords, credit/debit card information, etc.

So, what’s the message here?

  1. Remember the saying “There’s no such thing as a free lunch”. It means everything has a price.
  2. Ask yourself, why would anyone or any website give away a device as expensive as an iPhone 6s for 2999/-.
  3. Never respond to such messages no matter how inviting they look or sound, especially if they urge you to click on links or download any attachments.
  4. If you come across any such exciting or unbelievable offers, go to the official website ( in this case) and verify if the news is true.
  5. Most importantly, do not forward such messages to your friends or peers. By doing so, you are only helping criminals succeed in their nefarious purpose of robbing people.
